Allah sent his Messenger Mohammad (PBUH) as mercy to the universe. His mercy prevailed on all humans non-humans, stones, trees, solids, animals, Muslims and non-Muslims.

Good evening. I have come to Jerusalem today as a novelist, which is to say as a professional spinner of lies.

Of course, novelists are not the only ones who tell lies. Some politicians do it, too, as we all know. And diplomats and generals tell their own kinds of lies on occasion, as do used car salesmen, butchers and builders. The lies of novelists, however, differ from others, in that no one criticizes the novelist as immoral for telling lies. Indeed, the bigger and better his lies and the more ingeniously he creates them, the more he is likely to be praised by the public and the critics. Why should that be?

My answer would be this: namely, that by telling skilful lies -- which is to say, by making up fictions that appear to be true -- the novelist can bring out the truth to a new place and shine a new light on it. In most cases, it is virtually impossible to grasp the truth in its original form and depict it accurately. This is why ... we are trying to grab its tail by luring the truth from its hiding place, transferring it to a fictional location, and replacing it with a fictional form. In order to accomplish this, however, we first have to clarify where the truth lies within us, within ourselves. This is an important qualification for making up good lies.

Today, however, I have no intention of lying. I shall try to be as honest as I can. There are only a few days in the year I do not engage in telling lies, and today happens to be one of them.

So let me tell you the truth. Back in Japan a fair number of people advised me not to come here to accept the Jerusalem Prize. Some even warned me that they would instigate a boycott of my books if I came. The reason for this, of course, was the fierce fighting that was raging in Gaza. The U.N. reported that more than 1,000 people had lost their lives in the blockaded city of Gaza, many of them unarmed citizens -- children and old people.

Any number of times after receiving notice of this award, I asked myself whether traveling to Israel at a time like this and accepting a literary prize is a proper thing to do, and whether this would create the impression that I supported one side in the conflict, and that I endorsed the policies of a nation that chose to unleash its overwhelming military power. This is an impression, of course, that I would not wish to give. I do not approve of any war, and I do not support any nation. Neither, of course, do I wish to see my books subjected to a boycott.

Finally, however, after careful consideration, I made up my mind to come here. One reason for my decision is that all too many people advised me not to do it. Like many other novelists, I tend to do the exact opposite of what I am told. If people are telling me, and especially if they are warning me, "Don't go there," or "Don't do that," I tend to ... want to "go there" and "do that." It's in my nature, you might say, as a novelist. Novelists are a special breed. They cannot genuinely trust anything that they haven't seen with their own eyes or touched with their own hands.

And that is why I am here. I chose to come here rather than stay away. I chose to see for myself rather than not to see. I chose to speak to you rather than to say nothing.

This is not to say that I am here to deliver a political message. To make judgments about right and wrong is one of the novelist's most important duties, of course.

It is left to each writer, however, to decide upon the form in which he or she will convey those judgments to others. I myself prefer to transform them into stories - stories that tend toward the surreal. Which is why I do not intend to stand before you today delivering a direct political message.

Please do, however, allow me to deliver one very personal message. It is something that I always keep in mind while I am writing fiction. I have never gone so far as to write it on a piece of paper and paste it to the wall: Rather, it is carved into the wall of my mind, and it goes something like this:
"Between a high, solid wall and an egg that breaks against it, I will always stand on the side of the egg." Yes, no matter how right the wall may be, how wrong the egg, I will stand with the egg. Someone else will have to decide what is right and what is wrong; perhaps time or history will do it. But if there were a novelist who, for whatever reason, wrote works standing with the wall, of what value would such works be?

What is the meaning of this metaphor, of the wall and the egg? In some cases, it is all too simple and clear. Bombers and tanks and rockets and white phosphorus shells are that high wall. The eggs are unarmed civilians who are crushed, burned and shot by them. This is one meaning of this metaphor that is true.

But this is not all. It carries a deeper meaning. Think of it this way: Each of us is, more or less, an egg. Each of us is a unique, irreplaceable soul that is enclosed in a fragile shell. This is true of me, and it is true of each of you. And each of us, to a greater or lesser degree, is confronting a high, solid wall. The wall has a name: it is "The System." "The System." The System is supposed to protect us, but sometimes it takes on a life of its own, and it begins to kill us and cause us to kill others -- coldly, efficiently, and systematically.

I have only one reason to write novels, and that is to bring the dignity of the individual soul to the surface, and shine a light upon it. The purpose of a story is to sound an alarm, to keep a light trained on the System in order to prevent it from tangling our souls in its web and demeaning them. I truly believe that it is the novelist's job to keep trying to clarify the uniqueness of each individual soul by writing stories -- stories of life and death, stories of love, stories that make people cry, quake with fear and shake with laughter. This is why we go on, day after day, concocting fictions with utter seriousness.

My father passed away last year at the age of ninety. He was a retired teacher and a part-time Buddhist priest. When he was in graduate school in Kyoto, he was drafted into the army and sent to fight in China. As a child born after the war, I used to see him every morning before breakfast offering up a long, deep-felt prayer at the small Buddhist altar in our house. One time I asked him why he did this. He told me he was praying for the people who died on the battlefield. He was praying for all the people, he said, who died, both ally and enemy alike. Staring at his back as he knelt at the altar, I seemed to feel the shadow of death hovering around him.

My father died, and with him he took his memories, memories I can never know. But the presence of death that lurked about him remains in my own memory. It is one of the few things I carry on from him, and ... one of the most important.

I have only one thing I hope to convey to you today. We are all human beings, individuals transcending nationality, race and religion, and we are all eggs, we are all fragile eggs faced with a solid wall called "The System." To all appearances, we have no hope of winning. The wall is too high and too strong and too cold. If we have any hope of victory at all, it will have to come from our believing in the utter uniqueness and irreplaceable of our own and others' souls and from our believing in the warmth we gain by joining souls together.

Take a moment to think about this. Each of us possesses a tangible, living soul. The System has no such thing. We must not allow the System to exploit us. We must not allow the System to take on a life of its own. The System didn't make us, we made the System.

That is all I have to say to you.

I am grateful to have been awarded the Jerusalem Prize. I am grateful that my books are being read by people in many parts of the world, and I would like to express my gratitude to the readers in Israel. You are the biggest reason why I am here. And I hope we are sharing something, something very meaningful. And I am glad to have had the opportunity to speak to you here today.

Jerry is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!"

He was a unique manager because he had several waiters who had followed him around from restaurant to restaurant. The reason the waiters followed Jerry was because of his attitude. He was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Jerry and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

Jerry replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it. Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life."

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes it is," Jerry said. "Life is all about choices. When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice. You choose how you react to situations. You choose how people will affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood. The bottom line: It's your choice how you live life."

I reflected on what Jerry said. Soon thereafter, I left the restaurant industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Jerry did something you are never supposed to do in a restaurant business: he left the back door open one morning and was held up at gunpoint by three armed robbers. While trying to open the safe, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him. uckily, Jerry was found relatively quickly and rushed to the local trauma center. After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was released from the hospital with fragments of the bullets still in his body.

I saw Jerry about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied, "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but did ask him what had gone through his mind as the robbery took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door, " Jerry replied. "Then, as I lay on the floor, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

Jerry continued, "...the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared.

In their eyes, I read 'he's a dead man'. I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Jerry. "She asked if I was allergic to anything. 'Yes' I replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, 'Bullets!' Over their laughter, I told them, 'I am choosing to live.

Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead." Jerry lived thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully. Attitude, after all, is everything.

Ibn Ishaq has related this on the authority of Hadrat Urwah bin Zubair: The Companions one day said to one another: "The Quraish have never heard any one recite the Qur'an publicly to them, and who would read out the Divine Word aloud to them Hadrat Abdullah bin Masud said that he would. The Companions expressed the apprehension that he might be subjected to a harsh treatment and said that it should better be done by a person of a powerful family, who would protect him if the Quraish tried to subject him to violence. Hadrat Abdullah said: 'Let me alone : my Protector is Allah.' So early next morning he went to the Ka'bah while the Quraish chiefs were sitting in their respective conferences. Hadrat Abdullah arrived at the Maqam (station of Abraham) and began to recite Surah Ar- Rahman raising his voice as he did so. The Quraish first tried for a while to understand what he was saying. Then,when they realized that it was the Word that Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was representing as the Word of God, they fell upon him and began to hit him in the face. But Hadrat Abdullah was not deterred : he continued to receive the slaps and to read the Qur'an as long as he could, At last, when he returned with a swollen face, the Companions said that they apprehended the same. He replied: 'God's enemies were never so light for me as they were today. If you say I'll recite the Qur'an to them again tomorrow.' They all said, 'No, you have done enough; you have made them listen to what they didn't want to bear.'" (Ibn Hisham, vol. 1, p. 336).

This is the only Surah of the Quran in which besides men the jinn also, who are the other creation of the earth endowed with freedom of will and action, have been directly addressed, and both men and jinn have been made to realize the wonders of Allah's power, His countless blessings, their own helplessness and accountability before Him, and have been warned of the evil consequences of His disobedience and made aware of the best results of His obedience. Although at several other places in the Quran there are clear pointers to show that like the men the jinn too are a creation who have been endowed with freedom of will and action and are accountable, who have been granted the freedom of belief and unbelief, of obedience and disobedience, and among them too there are the believers and the unbelievers, the obedient and the rebellious, as among human beings, and among them too there exist such groups as have believed in the Prophets sent by God and in the Divine Books, this Surah clearly points out that the message of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and the Quran is meant both for men and for jinn and that his Prophethood is not restricted to human beings alone.

Although in the beginning of the Surah the address is directed only to human beings, for to them only belongs the vicegerency of the earth, among them only have the Messengers of Allah been raised, and in their tongues only have the Divine Books been revealed, yet from verse 13 onward both the men and the jinn have been addressed and one and the same invitation has been extended to both.

هذه السورة المكية ذات نسق خاص ملحوظ . إنها إعلان هام في ساحة الوجود الكبير ، وإعلام بآلاء الله الباهرة الظاهرة ، في جميل صنعه ،إبداع خلقه ، وفي فيض نعمائه ، وفي تدبيره للوجود وما فيه ، وتوجيه الخلائق كلها إلى وجهه الكريم .. وهي إشهاد عام للوجود كله على الثقلين : الأنس والجن المخاطبين بالسورة على السواء ، في ساحة الوجود على مشهد من كل موجود ، مع تحدياهما إن كانا يملكان التكذيب بآلاء الله ، تحدياً يتكرر عقب بيان كل نعمة التي يعدها ويفصلها ، ويجعل الكون كله معرضاً لها ، وساحة الآخرة كذلك .

ورنة الإعلان تتجلى في بناء السورة كله ، وفي إيقاع فواصلها .. تتجلى في إطلاق الصوت إلى أعلى ، وامتداد التصويت إلى بعيد ، كما تتجلى في المطلع الموقظ الذي يستثير الترقب والانتظار لما يأتي بعد المطلع من أخبار .. الرحمن كلمة واحدة . مبتدأ مفرد .. الرحمن كلمة واحدة في معناها الرحمة ، وفي رنتها الإعلان ، والسورة بعد ذلك بيان للمسات الرحمة ومعرض لآلاء الرحمن .

وبيدأ معرض الآلاء بتعليم القرآن بوصفة المنة الكبرى على الإنسان . تسبق في الذكر خلق الإنسان ذاته وتعليمه البيان .. ُثم يذكر خلق الإنسان ، ومنحه الصفة الإنسانية الكبرى ..البيان ..

ومن ثم يفتح صحائف الوجود الناطقة بآلاء الله .. الشمس والقمر والنجم والشجر والسماء المرفوعة . والميزان الموضوع . والأرض وما فيها من فاكهة ونخل وحب وريحان . والجن والإنس . والمشرقان والمغربان . والبحران بينهما برزخ لايبغيان . وما يخرج منهما وما يجرى فيهما .

فإذا تم عرض هذه الصحائف الكبار . عرض فنائها جميعاً . مشهد الفناء المطلق للخلائق ، وفي ظل الوجود المطلق لوجه الله الكريم الباقي . الذي إليه تتوجه الخلائق جميعاً ، ليتصرف بأمرها بما يشاء .

وفي ظل الفناء المطلق والبقاء المطلق يجيء التهديد المروع والتحدي الكوني للجن والإنس : ( سنفرغ لكم أيها الثقلان . فبأى الآلاء ربكما تكذبان)

ومن ثم يعرض مشهد النهاية . مشهد القيامة . يعرض في صورة كونية . يرتسم فيها مشهد السماء حمراء سائلة ، ومشهد العذاب للمجرمين ، والثواب للمتقين في تطويل وتفصيل .

ثم يجيء الختام المناسب لمعرض الآلاء : ( تبارك اسم ربك ذي الجلال والإكرام ) ..

Palestinain girl complains to ICC over Gaza war...

A 15-year-old Palestinian girl has demanded the International Criminal Court to probe into the Israeli three-week war on the blockaded Gaza Strip.

Amira Alqerem whose family was killed in an Israeli assault on the Tal Al Hawa neighborhood in the Gaza Strip told journalists in The Hague" I am here to lodge a complaint against the occupying army".

"I hope this complaint will succeed because it is the truth," the soft-spoken teenager said, seated next to her lawyer on his way to the ICC to file the complaint with the office of the prosecutor.

According to AFP, in her court filing, Alqerem says her 67-year-old father Fathi, 16-year-old-sister Ismat, and 14-year-old brother Ala, were killed by Israeli army fire in the early hours of January 14.

"This was a crime against humanity, that is why we brought it to the ICC," said her lawyer Gilles Devers, who said the attacks were aimed at civilians.

"Israeli politicians and military leaders must be held responsible."

Tel Aviv launched its large-scale military operations against Gaza's 1.5 million besieged Palestinian residents on December 27. The ensuing three weeks of air and artillery bombardments and a ground incursion left nearly 1,350 Palestinians dead, and about 5,450 injured. At least 1,100 of those killed were civilians.

The international community has accused Israel of committing war crimes, including the use of deadly white phosphorus shells in densely populated civilian areas and the use of civilians as human shields.

The incendiary shells cause horrific burns and poisoning and their use against human targets is against international laws.

Israel initially denied using phosphorus shells. However, Tel Aviv later admitted using such shells after indisputable evidence, shown globally on video feed, proved that such weapons were used widely against Gazans.

طالبت فتاة فلسطينية في الخامسة عشر من عمرها المحكمة الجنائية الدولية بالتحقيق في الحرب التي شنتها اسرائيل على قطاع غزة خلال ديسمبر/ كانون الاول ويناير/ كانون الثاني الماضيين.

وكانت أميرة القرم جرحت خلال تلك الحرب وقتل عدد من أفراد عائلتها.

وقالت اميرة في مؤتمر صحافي في لاهاي الاثنين “انا هنا لاقدم شكوى ضد جيش الاحتلال”، حيث كان برفقتها محاميها وعدد من افراد لجنة التضامن معها.

وقصدت أميرة مكتب المدعي العام لطلب التحقيق في جرائم الحرب والجرائم ضد الانسانية في العملية العسكرية التي شنتها اسرائيل.

وخلال الحرب قتل كل من والد أميرة وشقيقها (14 سنة) وشقيقتها (16 سنة) في قصف مدفعي استهدف حي تل الهوى الذي يعيشون فيه.

وقالت أميرة التي تتلقى العلاج في شمال فرنسا “انا افعل هذا من اجل اطفال غزة”.

اما جبريل ديفير محامي اميرة فقال “هذه جريمة ضد الانسانية، لذلك نحن نرفع القضية الى المحكمة الجنائية الدولية. ويجب تحميل المسؤولين السياسيين والعسكريين الاسرائيليين المسؤولية”.

ويجري مدعي عام محكمة الجزاء الدولية لويس مورينو اوكامبو منذ فبراير/ شباط “دراسة اولية” للاتهامات بجرائم الحرب الموجهة لاسرائيل.

يذكر أن المدعي العام تلقى خطابات وعرائض كثيرة بهذا الشأن ابرزها من وزير العدل الفلسطيني علي الخشان ورسائل من اكثر من 360 فردا وجمعية.

Jamaah – and set after prayer to read Athkaar until sunrise
Then he prays 2 rakateen
- Its rewarded as accomplishing haj and omra

وأخرج الترمذي عن أنس رضي الله عنه عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم أنه قال:
(من صلى الفجر في جماعة ثم قعد يذكر الله حتى تطلع الشمس ثم صلى ركعتين كانت
له كآجر حجة وعمرة تامة تامة تامة)
رواه الترمذي وقال حديث حسن

الساعة الثانية

آخر ساعة من النهار _قبل الغروب
Second hour:
Last hour before sunset (Iftaar)

هذه الساعة الثمينة تفوت على المؤمن الصائم غالباً بالانشغال بإعداد الإفطار والتهيؤ له
وهذا لا ينبغي لمن حرص على تحصيل الأجر فهي لحظات ثمينة ودقائق غالية

هي من أفضل الأوقات للدعاء وسؤال الله تعالى _ فهي من أوقات الاستجابة
كما جاء في الحديث
(ثلاث مستجابات :دعوة الصائم ،ودعوة المظلوم ، ودعوة المسافر)
رواه الترمذي

Our prayers in this hour are all granted as Prophet said. So
We should never waste it by watching TV or preparing food

وكان السلف الصالح لأخر النهار أشد تعظيماً من أوله لأنه خاتمة اليوم والموفق من وفقه الله
لاستغلال هذه الساعة في دعاء الله

السحر هو الوقت الذي يكون قبيل الفجر قال تعالى (والمستغفرين بالأسحار)
فاحرص أخي الصائم على هذا الوقت الثمين بكثرة الدعاء والاستغفار حتى يؤذن الفجر
Its preferred to utilize this hour in Estegfar and praying

وخاصة أننا في شهر رمضان فلنستغل هذه الدقائق الروحانية فيما يقوي صلتنا بالله تعالى.
قال تعالى حاثاً على اغتنام هذه الساعات الثمينة بالتسبيح والتهليل:
(وسبح بحمد ربك قبل طلوع الشمس وقبل غروبها ومن آناء الليل فسبح وأطراف النهار لعلك ترضى)
